Introduction to Article Manager

Image Management

Article Manager has changed from previous versions in that it doesn't handle image management anymore. This allows you to have more flexibility in how you organize your images.

Image management in phpWebsite is now done through the FileCabinet (and hopefully PhotoAlbum) module. In short, it helps you to organize your image files in subfolders under the /images directory and you can also attatch alternate text and a short description to it to aid in searching later. When you select images by pressing the "Clip" link next to the thumbnail, a link for that image will appear on a "Clipboard" block that will stay up once you leave FileCabinet and return to the Article Manager module. Clicking on that link will give you the SmartTag for that image.

If you want to host your images on another server or use another program to manage them, you can refer to it by its URL (eg:"http://images.mysite.com/people/cowgirl.png").

Image Management and Cataloging is a broad field and there are alot of external solutions that are specific to various industries (News, Medical, Insurance, etc.). As a start, you can check out:

TIPS:
- I highly suggest that you don't use the URLs for images hosted on someone else's site. If that site's admin decides to erase or change the image, you won't know until you happen to look at that article again.

- It's generally better to use filenames without spaces in them. Use "_" instead. Some FTP programs and Linux systems get kinda funny about spaces. It probably won't ever be a problem for you, but its better to be safe than sorry.
