Versioning

As with many parts of phpWebsite, Article Manager has the ability to store previous versions of articles so that you can roll back changes if you need to. It also allows you to make a "rough draft" of changes to an article that can't be seen by users until you are ready to publish it or send it for approval. Whenever you're ready to return to the article, click the "Editing" tab.

Viewing Other Versions

When you're editing an article a new tab called "View Revision History" will appear. Clicking this will display all saved versions of this article. There are 4 columns:

"Version" shows the number of each version. If you click it you will see what that versio looked like. If the version is the current one, a rough draft, or currently awaiting approvel by a site editor, that status will also be shown here.

"Updated" shows the last date that that version was edited.

"Compare To" allows you to view a "Diff" screen that shows what was changed between any 2 versions. For ease of reference, the current version of the article will also be shown below that.

"Editor" is the last person to edit the version.

Approval

Clicking the Approval" tab will show you a list of articles that are waiting to be approved. You are given the option to approve or disapprove each article.

If you click "Approve" the article will be available on the site as of the publishing date set in the article. If you click "Disapprove", you will be asked for the reason why. This reason will be emailed to the article editor and shown in the Message Box whenever the article is next edited. This way the site editors never have to change the articles themselves -- the writers will have that responsibility.
